Background.
Are you ready to trade the life (or at least the notion) of the rat race and bigger towns for a quiet, sedate setting? Come to work in places where people vacation. You’re not going to make as much money as you would in the Big City, but then again, you’re probably not going to have to pay $2000 a month for a two bedroom apartment, or pay $400 a month for parking. I believe that job satisfaction is at least as important as anything else you do in your life. After all, if you hate where you work, it’s tough to enjoy the rest of your life.
For the most part, life in the rural setting is cheaper and less stressful. You can park near the office and court without having to worry about huge parking fees, paid lots, heavy traffic congestion, etc. Friendly and able court staff and county offices help make life a bit easier, too. And you probably won’t be in trial each and every week, meaning you can actually catch up on cases and sleep once in a while! Offices will be very relaxed, with no pressure for billable hours and when you’re not in court, every day is casual Friday (within reason, of course, and as long as you have court clothes available for short notice hearings). You’ll be expected to handle your cases, see your clients, return your calls, and as long as you’re doing the job properly, you won’t have Big Brother watching over your shoulder every minute (although I will be available to help out when needed). You’ll need to see clients in jail or detention, when appropriate, but even the jail and detention center are smaller here.
